First Night is a family-friendly, alcohol-free arts festival held on New Year's Eve. Sioux Falls is one of 130 cities around the world that celebrate First Night and is part of First Night International, a global licensing organization. First Night began in Boston, Massachusetts in 1976 as part of their bicentennial celebration.
First Night features a variety of music, dance, theatre, and art along with activities for both kids and adults. First Night will also feature an early kid's fireworks display at 9:20pm at 5th & Phillips. The program guide will be available at Main Street Sioux Falls, the Horse Barn Arts Center, the Orpheum Theater Center and the Sioux Falls Arena prior to the event.
Where does First Night take place?
December 30 at the Sioux Falls Arena from 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
December 31 at the Orpheum Theater Center from Noon - 9:30 p.m.
December 31 at the Holiday Inn City Center from 6:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. (21+ only)
Where do I get a First Night admission button?
First Night Admission buttons are $5 and are available at the Orpheum Theater Center, Main Street Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Arena, and at the door of each venue the day of the event. Buttons go on sale December 15th.
Does my admission button cover all events?
The button gives you admission to all Kid’s Festival events on the 30th and 31st at the Sioux Falls Arena and the Orpheum Theater Center venues. The Holiday Inn City Centre event is not included in the First Night button.
Is food and beverage included in the button price?
No. Food and beverage is available for purchase at some of the First Night venues at very reasonable prices.
Is First Night for all ages?
Yes! There are activities and performances for kids from 5:00-10:00pm on Tuesday, Dec. 30th at the Sioux Falls Arena, and from noon to 9:30 on Wednesday, Dec. 31st at the Orpheum Theater Center. First Night also has a grown-up venue this year, First Night 21+, featuring great music, food and drinks at the Holiday Inn City Centre.
Is it a fundraiser?
No, First Night is not a fundraiser. First Night Sioux Falls is required to pay their artists, helping to support the local arts community, and additional funds are used to pay the artists, production and marketing costs. Any additional funds go into making the event bigger and better the next year! First Night is meant to promote the arts and bring the community together to celebrate.
